„TerraTec 2007“: DBU Presents Ecological Innovation

International fair in Leipzig from 5 - 8 March – Exemplary DBU-Projects in Hall 3 / Stand H 51
Osnabrueck / Leipzig. The topics waste disposal, water, sewage and waste technology as also urban development are in the focus of attention of the international environmental fair TerraTec (Leipzig, 5 - 8 March). The Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) participates in this platform for environmental technology and ecological services. On its stand in hall 3 (H 51) the foundation presents three innovative and exemplary projects from the field of water and river and lake protection: sewage treatment, flood protection and modern urban development. "This environmental fair offers the chance to introduce our projects a wide-ranged industry public”, emphasizes DBU – Secretary General Dr.-Ing. E. h. Fritz Brickwedde.

Decentralized sewage disposal - advantageous and ecological

The Leipzig company Busse GmbH presents the small-format purification plant BusseMF which offers solutions for an advantageous and ecological decentralized sewage disposal. The enterprise introduces also the world’s first cycle management system for fish-farming: not a single drop of sewage seeps into the environment during the water treatment. Both technical systems use the innovative bio membrane technology which leads to clearly improved purification results.

Flood protection: a gentle soil treatment and a sustainable rainwater management

At the example of the catchment area of the river Mulde in Saxony, the engineering firm Professor Dr. Sieker and the University of Hanover jointly demonstrate how to advance the possibilities of flood protection in view of water retention and the slowing down of the drainage. The result: Successful flood protection must start in the catchment area of flow waters. Effective measures were a gentle soil treatment i.e. in agricultural areas or a sustainable rainwater management in settlement regions and traffic areas.

Uncover the river Pleiße, and bring it back to Leipzig's cityscape

The “Förderverein Neue Ufer” (Leipzig) completes the DBU projects on the stand as an example for environmental education and communication. For more than ten years, the association has tried successfully to uncover the river Pleiße that was partially canalized in the 1950s years, and bring it back to Leipzig’s cityscape. With intensive participation of the citizens, the opening of a section is part of a pedagogic-didactic concept of environmental education and communication.
