This study addresses the integration of life cycle assessment (LCA) and global warming potential (GWP) assessment in the Albanian construction sector. Current certification systems primarily focus on operational energy efficiency and neglect embodied emissions. The methodology is based on established European standards and databases, while simultaneously investigating the extent to which these datasets can be adapted to the Albanian context. Furthermore, the lack of a national database on the environmental impacts of building materials represents a key obstacle to the implementation of life cycle carbon assessment methods. Through stakeholder consultations, methodology development, and future case study analyses, the project aims to establish a foundation for integrating life cycle carbon assessment into national building assessment procedures. The anticipated outcome is a practical guide supporting policymakers, certification bodies, and construction professionals in considering both operational and embodied emissions, thereby contributing to the decarbonization of the Albanian construction sector and its alignment with European sustainability goals.
