Advancing biodiversity in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by addressing methodological challenges, testing the approach in case studies, and exploring ways to improve its decision relevance for environmental policy and corporate sustainability

Biodiversity loss is one of the major environmental challenges of our time, yet it often remains invisible in decision-making. My research focuses on developing methods to better measure and assess the impacts of products and economic activities on biodiversity. By combining Life Cycle Assessment with spatial and ecological data, I aim to make biodiversity impacts more transparent and support decisions that are not only climate-friendly, but also nature-friendly. As part of my work at Fraunhofer IBP, I am currently investigating how sectors with particularly high biodiversity impacts, such as mining, can be assessed more accurately.
