Reintegration Of Textile Waste Into Everyday Life

The project focuses on advancing circular approaches within the textile sector by supporting the reintegration of textile waste into everyday life. Conducted at Texoversum, Reutlingen University, the work addresses challenges related to material classification, textile testing, and design-for-recycling through the development of a material matrix and a digital decision-support tool.

Key challenges in textile recycling, such as multi-material products, complex garment constructions, and limited information on post-consumer textiles, are addressed through a combination of material analysis, standardized testing activities, and design-oriented research. The project links textile materials, product components, and construction methods to suitable recycling pathways in order to support informed decision-making at the interface of product design and end-of-life processing.

Overall, the project contributes to more sustainable textile systems by enabling improved reuse and recycling of post-consumer textiles and supporting the transition toward a circular textile economy.
