How can I take part in the German Environmental Award ceremony?

The event is only open to selected invited guests. Invitations will be sent out in the course of August. If you have not received an invitation, you are welcome to follow the event in the livestream on our YouTube channel .

From the main train station you can take a streetcar to the stop “Roter Turm” (every 10 – 15 minutes). From there it is a 3 minute walk.

Alternatively, you can also walk. The main station is about a 10-minute walk from the Stadthalle Chemnitz. Go to the main exit and cross the station forecourt. Turn right into Carolastraße and then left into Straße der Nationen, which leads directly to the Stadthalle.

If you are unable to travel by train or public transport, we recommend carpooling. The following common platforms can be used for this purpose:

No parking facilities for private transport will be provided by us as the organizer. Public parking garages including e-charging stations are available in Chemnitz. All guests are recommended to use public transportation.

If you would like to arrive by bike, there is a bike garage on site including charging facilities for e-bikes. You can find more information here.
You can also hire bicycles in Chemnitz here .

If you are traveling from abroad, we recommend using international Deutsche Bahn services .

If it is only possible to travel to and from the event by plane, we are happy to refer you to the possibility of greenhouse gas compensation. You can calculate the greenhouse gases emitted here and find providers of offsetting services here.

Accessibility – Is the event barrier-free?

When registering for an event, you can indicate whether support is required. In this case, we will contact you individually, discuss your requirements and implement them. Below you will find links to information on barrier-free travel and the event location.

Accommodation – Which accommodation is recommended for the event weekend?

You will soon find a list of possible accommodations for the weekend of the award ceremony here. If possible, we recommend booking a hotel with environmental certification.

Safety regulations – Are there any special safety regulations for the event?

Due to the participation of the Federal President, the presentation of the German Environmental Award is an event with an increased security level. For this reason, it is mandatory to request personal data when registering. The data of all guests and all persons participating in the event will be checked by the BKA in advance. Admission to the event will only be granted to registered and verified persons upon presentation of the admission QR code in conjunction with a valid identification document (identity card or passport). Please follow the instructions of the police, security service and DBU staff on site. The personal data collected will be deleted after the event.

Catering – Is catering offered?

The award ceremony will be followed by a festive reception with vegetarian and vegan catering. The ingredients will be displayed at the buffet. If you have any questions, please contact the staff.

Sustainability – What measures are being implemented?

Based on our ethical convictions, we are committed to preserving the natural foundations of life: For their own sake as well as in responsibility for present and future generations.

We want to achieve sustainable impact in practice. Through our work, we provide impetus and act as a multiplier.

For these reasons, we are committed to making the presentation of the German Environmental Award resource-conserving and environmentally friendly by reducing emissions, avoiding waste and using sustainable alternatives. We attach great importance to social justice and the inclusion of all those involved.

All employees involved in the implementation of the event are trained in sustainable practices and criteria. Through transparent communication and continuous improvement, we want to act as a role model for sustainable events and inspire the event industry.

Invitation to the Capital of Culture weekend in Chemnitz 2025

As European Capital of Culture 2025, the city of Chemnitz invites you to combine a visit to the German Environmental Award on October 26, 2025 with a long weekend. Experience a special weekend full of history, art and sustainability in Chemnitz during the European Capital of Culture year.

Carlowitz Award Ceremony

On the evening of 24.10.2025, we cordially invite you to the festive Carlowitz Award Ceremony at 17:00 in the Carlowitz Congress Center Chemnitz. The annual sustainability conference of the Hans-Carl-von-Carlowitz-Gesellschaft e.V. for the promotion of sustainability has a firm place in the national and regional “sustainability calendar”. This is awarded to personalities who have had and continue to have an impact on politics and society in terms of sustainability.

In the footsteps of Carlowitz

The Saxon chief mining administrator Hans Carl von Carlowitz is considered the creator of the term “sustainability”. On 25.10.2025, your day begins at the Carlowitz Congress Center with the guided tour “In Carlowitz’s footsteps” from 09:30 to 13:00. Discover the renewed exhibition at Rabenstein Castle – the birthplace of Hans Carl von Carlowitz. Playfully experience the 17 sustainability goals at the interactive table. On a walk in the Rabenstein forest, forest ranger Ullrich Göthel will show you the special features of his “eternal forest”.
