DBU-Symposium 2021

Climate saver wood?

The importance of sustainable wood use for climate and resource protection is increasingly coming into focus. The origin of wood and the way in which it is produced and used in which products have a decisive influence on its climate and environmental balance. On Monday, October 4, 2021, in the run-up to the presentation of the German Environmental Award, the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt will therefore hold this year’s DBU Environmental Award Symposium on the topic of “Climate savior wood? Conducting Opportunities for Climate and Resource Protection through a Sustainable Timber Industry” in an online format.

At the symposium, we would like to discuss with representatives from science and practice how forests can succeed in producing a large amount of usable wood on the one hand, while on the other hand fulfilling the many functions that serve to protect people and the environment. In doing so, we want to answer the following questions in particular: How much and, above all, which wood do we want and can we use in the future? Which certification systems, for example, are suitable for using wood from sustainable sources to produce wood products? And how can wood be used sparingly and in a climate-friendly manner, and how can it be used as repeatedly as possible in “cascades of use”?

Program (October 4, 2021, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.):
