Anpassung des QCLS-Instruments für mobile isotopologische Messungen

Tunable laser direct absorption spectroscopy is a widely used technique for the in situ sensing of atmospheric composition. Cavity Ring-Down Spectrometer and Quantum Cascade Laser System instruments provide continuous and simultaneous measurements of greenhouse gases. The Institute of Atmospheric Physics at German Aerospace Center (DLR) focuses on the research of the physical and chemical processes of the troposphere and lower stratosphere. The most important issue in understanding the human influence on atmosphere is the assessment of anthropogenic sources of greenhouse gases. The goal of this project is to adapt Quantum Cascade Laser Spectroscopy (QCLS) instrument for mobile isotopologue measurements. It will serve as part of the preparation towards the measurement campaign ‘METHANE-To-Go’ which will be carried out at the Arabian peninsula in 2020 with the main goal of inferring emission estimates for methane (CH4), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and aerosol particles. Adapting and preparing sophisticated airborne instrumentation for this international campaign will provide the fellowship recipient a unique opportunity to gain insights into planning, preparing for and necessary experience for conducting research.
