Nuclear waste disposal in the subground need to be built in a save and highly sealed structures. One approach to detect possible damage and leakage of such an infrastructure is to build up a sensitive monitoring system able to resolve small changes at large depth. Geophysical seismic imaging may provide such a monitoring approach, if small changes in the coda of P and S waves are detected and can be interpreted. In order to assess the feasibility of such a monitoring approach, and to support the interpretation of possible signals, numerical simulation tools need to be developed which are able to calculate synthetic coda waves as a result of small-scale perturbations. The aim of the internship is to develop and test such a simulation approach for synthetic elastic waves.
