The scholarship took place in The Institute for Prevention and Occupational Medicine of the German Social Accident Insurance (IPA) (Institut für Prävention und Arbeitsmedizin der Deutschen Gesetzlichen Unfallversicherung) in Bochum (Ruhrgebiet).The project was carried out in order to work out a proposal for methodology of field measurements, based on German experience, to evaluate odour annoyance around odour emission sources in Poland. A description of current knowledge about the problem in Poland and about German law concerning odours as well as review and analyses of past odour annoyance studies have been done. Additionally, a variety of statistical measurements have been practiced. Based on all the knowledge and experience gained a methodology for odour annoyance evaluation has been explained. The proposed methodology consisted of field inspections as well as questionnaires description and the way of the evaluation of results. Modifications to the German methodology have been done in order to develop the evaluation process. It has been concluded that the legislation related to odours should be introduced in Poland in order to improve the communication with the residents from the affected areas and reduce the odour annoyance as it involves small problems, but huge benefits for people.
