Application for an exchange scholarship in the CEE Programme

The basic formal requirements for applicants are:

• University graduate from one of the participating countries
• A citizen of the participating country
• Permanent residence in the participating country
• Above-average (good to very good) grade point average for university degree (Master or Diploma, a Bachelor's degree only is not sufficient)
• Graduation from the degree programme was no more than three years prior to the application date
• Topic addresses a relevant environmental issue (for the home country, the EU or globally)
• Knowlegde of the German language, which must be demonstrated at the beginning of the research stay at the latest (application and interview in German or English)
• The procurement of a company partner or concrete placement befor the begin of the scholarship is not a funding requirement.

The diagram to the right shows the progress of a successful application and the stay in Germany, from the point of the first contact to the end of scholarship.

  • Establish contact with the coordinator in your home country, register online and complete the application.
  • Examination of application by DBU
  • About 6 weeks after application: written invitation to the selection interview sent to the best candidates
  • About 10 weeks after application: interview in your home country, presentation of the project (approx. 10 minutes) and discussion (approx. 20 minutes)
  • 1 - 2 days after selection interview: decision made about who receives scholarships
  • Several weeks after selection interview: search for a suitable internship
  • 4 - 5 months after selection interview: beginning of scholarship (arrival in Germany, German language course and DBU introductory seminar, then research stay)
  • DBU events during scholarship: International Summer Academy, German Environmental Award ceremony, seminarsfor scholarship recipients
  • 4 - 5 months after start of research stay: possibility to request extension of scholarship accompanied by progress report
  • Extension granted or refused
  • Other events during the scholarship period
  • After 6 or 12 months, at the latest: end of scholarship and submittal of final report
