German Environmental Foundation Scholarship Programmes

DBU offers three different scholarship programmes. The differences are described below.

  • 60 scholarships per year for new doctoral candidates
  • Doctorate to be undertaken at a German University (Applications are welcomed from foreign students to study at a German University)
  • Length of up to 36 months

  • For further practical qualifications and experience after graduation
  • For university graduates from Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Kaliningrad, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia.
  • Research internships at institutes, private firms, government departments or ministries, non-governmental organisations etc.
  • No support for doctoral candidates
  • Length of 6 – 12 months
  • further information here
  • for displaced university graduates with a Master’s degree (or an equivalent degree)
  • from countries (e.g., Syria) not including safe countries of origin and western Balkan nations
  • in addition, an application for asylum must be made in Germany.
  • online application in German or English. Good skills in German or English are thus essential for an application. Selection interview in Osnabrück in German or English.
  • research residency in research institutes, companies, ministries, universities etc.
  • for further professional qualification in environmental- and nature protection areas
  • no doctoral sponsorship at a German university
  • duration: max. 12 months
  • introductory period in Osnabrück with intensive German course
