Basic formal requirements for an application are:

• Graduate from the participating countries
• Citizen of one participating country
• Residence in the home country
• Above-average exam (master and diplom)
• Exam taken within the last three years
• Topic with environmental relevance (for the home country or the European Union)
• German language skills to be confirmed by the beginning of the scholarship at the latest
• Application and selection interview in German or English language

If you meet these requirements and want to apply, we kindly ask you to contact our coordinator in your home country.

The diagram shows the process of a successful application and stay in Germany.

• From the first contact to the end of scholarship
• Contact the coordinator in your home country, register online and complete the application form.
• Examination of application by DBU
• About 6 weeks after application: written invitation to interview
• About 10 weeks after application: interview in your home country, presentation of the project (approx. 10 minutes) and discussion (approx. 20 minutes)
• 1 - 2 days after selection interview: decision on granting of scholarships
• Several weeks after interview: search for a suitable internship, probably German Language course in home country
• 4 - 5 months after selection interview: start of scholarship, arrival in Germany, DBU introductory seminar
• DBU events during scholarship: International Summer Academy, German Environmental Award ceremony, seminars
• 4 - 5 months after start of research stay: possibility of extension request, accompanied by progress report
• Grant , - Refusal
• Other events during the scholarship
• After 6 or 12 months at the latest: end of scholarship, final report
