This programme was approved in the context of the EU enlargement in Central and Eastern Europe in December 2004. Professor Dr. Carmen Socaciu from the University for Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (USAMV) in Cluj Napoca is the responsible contact person.

In September 2009, a number of former scholarship holders came together in the USAMV Cluj Napoca (Klausenburg) to establish a DBU alumni network in Romania (more details here). Besides the election of Dan Vodnár as a chairman, specific content objectives of the network have been defined. The Romanian alumni network is the fourth alumni association of former DBU scholarship holders.
